Head Start has contracted with the Children's Developmental Center to provide Early Head Start (EHS) services in Benton and Franklin counties. EHS services are free to eligible pregnant women and families with children birth to three. Services include a child development program, home visits, parent education, parent/child activities, and peer support groups.
Center-Based Services
Center-based services are provided at the Children's Developmental Center for children aged 16 to 36 months. Depending on the child’s needs, options include two or four days per week. The purpose of this model is to help meet the child’s developmental needs and foster social development in a classroom setting.
Home-Based Services
An EHS Home Teacher will meet with the family one time per week for 90 minutes in the family home. The focus of the visit will center on the home as the learning environment with the parent as the teacher. Parenting education and materials will be provided during these visits.
There will be two opportunities per month for Home-Based families to meet for socialization. Socializations are an opportunity for parents to meet other parents, watch their child at play and to play with them. For the child, it is an opportunity to play with other children in a group setting.
Services to Pregnant Women
Services to pregnant women are provided in the participant’s home, with topics tailored to individual needs. Discussion topics include pregnancy, labor, delivery, and what life is like after the birth. EHS Home Teachers will provide referrals for prenatal and postpartum health care and dental and breast feeding education. Fathers are encouraged to participate in these visits as well.
